New piglets

Posted by bref on October 23, 2010 at 9:54 AM

Zoe, my middlewhite gilt had her first litter on Wednesday morning.

I crossed her with a young Gloucestershire Old Spot boar. She had 8 piglets, all looked strong except for 1 who was just a little bit smaller than the others.

Unfortunately, when I went to feed the pigs on Thursday afternoon 2 had very saldly died. I dont think it was due to crushing but I think they had gotten badly chilled, wednesay afternoon, as I found 3 outside the hut unable to get back in. I had them inside my jacket to warm up for half an hour, but I suppose I didn't do enough to ensure the 2 survived. So, my fault and very heart breaking.
