These rare breed and rarebreed cross, free range pigs produce the tastiest, healthiest pork and sausages.
They all live a healthy, happy life, able to wander around and do what comes naturally to pigs, root and dig outside in the fresh air. These pigs are not reared like the poor creatures who are intensivly bred to mass produce the sausages and bacon you see in every supermarket. These poor pigs do not even get a chance to root and dig like they should, being kept on concrete or slatted flooring for their whole life.
Anybody who cares where their meat comes from should activley seek out and support small scale traditional producers. Find a local free range producer and give them your support. This ensures 100% traceability, something the supermarkets can only dream about. Free range is the only humane way to keep animals, particularly in the case of pigs which are perhaps the most intelligent and charming of farm animals.
Buy your meat from small and if possible local producers. Good for you, good for them, good for the animals.
If you want to get more involved with where your pork comes from, why not consider our 'Own a Pig' option! Gets you back in touch with where your food comes from!! I had a litter of pure bred Old Spot pigs born on the 10th December, 5 are still available. Check our 'Own a Pig' page for details..
